Lace Cape

Hello everyone,
So, here is another piece that has been made over summer break. As it is not linked to any big projects I am able to share it with you as soon as it's finished :)
The photos are very recent, as in, taken this very day. Today was beautiful and not too hot. Christchurch Central is full of colour and murals with the rebuild so it provided a lovely collection of backgrounds to work with,

Thank you to Sam for being so patient with me, I can be difficult to work with when taking photos haha ^^;

This cape is pretty different to what I usually design. It was intended to be slightly avant-garde but is still useful for day to day wear. The design is linked to my Spring Cardigan and is mostly made from the same materials so the two garments work well as a duo.

While it is not for everyone's taste, it is very comfortable to wear and has a lot of detail on both the front and back.

Like the Cardigan, the lace is recycled, but instead of it being attached without a lining, there is a black underlay to further define the design. The black base material is satin which has a nice level of shine without it being too overpowering.

The loose welt-pockets on the front panels link to the design of the neckline, which is a white satin. The fastener for the cape is a small vintage button.

Sequins are scattered over the black panels which reflect in the light. Black tape is lined between each panel, which is also reflective and is visible under artificial light.

Tomorrow I will upload the design drawings and some parts of the construction process. On Thursday the Stardoll-versions of the garment will be up, so watch this space! :)

Next Release: hints!

Hello everyone,
I hope that 2015 began well for you all. I didn't have the best start with catching a nasty illness which kept me away from designing for at least a week. I'm better now but because of the weird hiatus and the circumstances, the garment (preview) I have shown you in the previous post will actually be released after the one I am about to present.
Even you most of you will only see one garment at a time, I am usually working on multiple projects and sometimes commissions which do mess up schedules and as such.

My apologies for any confusion, both of these garments will be released, but later than originally intended.

So, here are some new previews of the latest garment you will see in a few days. :)

A Stardoll Preview:

and a Garment preview: (sewing on sequins)

Any sequins on my garments are hand-sewn. I personally don't like machining on strips of sequins because it seems restrictive. Even though doing it by hand takes more time, it provides more creative freedom and is oddly relaxing~

I'm getting the photoshoot done tomorrow. It's been 30+ degrees (celsius) over the past few days here so it is going to be very hot dressed in dark clothing. Wish me luck ;)

New garment sneak peek!

Hello everyone.
Right now many of you will be getting ready for Christmas, it's less than a week away!

Things have been crazy-busy with Christmas/New Years and working with my work hours (which proved to be the BEST time to start running two blogs... am I right?)

I have had the time to work on a new garment though. It is still in progress and has a lot more work to be done, but I would like to give you some sneak peeks regardless; enjoy!

(Yay for messy workrooms!)

The main reason for why it might be a while until it's done is because there is a lot of detailing work. The last time I did this amount of detailing was back with the Peacock Garment, which took about three weeks to finish the detailing alone. It shouldn't be that long for this garment, but it gives a good indication for how long it may be until the final product is shown.

I will be showing more sneak peeks as I progress so you shouldn't be missing much ;)

It's a little hard recording the progress right now because of what's happening right now but when the new year arrives and things begin to quieten down I hope to have a better way of showing you all what I am doing.

So, what do you think it will be? :)

Christmas Light Show + Inspired Designs

Hello everyone

Right now I've been surprisingly busy with things other than fashion over the past few days.
Luckily there was some time yesterday to do a little fashion work. This isn't part of my next garment/project, but more so to practice designing.

Every year my family visit a place where Christmas lights are set up and timed to music. It's completely mesmerizing and really gets into the festive mood :) The buildings throughout the place are filled with Christmas themed arrangements and toys from all over the world.

I took this as a little opportunity to be inspired and do some designing. Just doing these little things really helps develop drawing skills and how we interpret inspiration into designs into our own.

This is a quick video I recorded and edited of the place to use as inspiration:

Here are the final designs I ended up sketching out. The original intention was to make a quick and easy ready-to-wear collection but I became fascinated with the use of lights in a garment that it kind of turned into avant garde or something similar c:

The garments themselves hug the body and are made in black leather - referencing the night backdrop.
The bright skirts and cape are strung lights and change color according to the music.

It's not very Christmas-themed, but is versatile to suit anytime of the year... you know, if this is your style of course ;)

What do you think? Are you designing (or wearing) any garment inspired by Christmas or anything similar?
